Eyebright is a native European wild plant which has a traditional use in eye care. We have combined it with the carotenoid plant pigments lutein and zeaxanthin which have been shown to have benefits in terms of slowing the development of certain age-related eye diseases. Lutein and zeaxanthin are the only carotenoids in the eye, unlike all other body tissues, which contain a wide variety of carotenoids such as beta carotene.
Lutein & zeaxanthin, form an oily, yellow substance at a central point of the retina known as the macula. This yellow oil, called macular pigment, is thought to protect the macula from age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a disease that studies in the UK have shown to affect up to 12% of men and 29% of women over the age of 75. The macula is a small area of the retina responsible for seeing detail and colour in our central field of vision.
Other traditional ‘healthy eye’ ingredients - Bilberry, Carrot, Vitamins C and E & Zinc are also supplied in this formulation to provide a good all round daily eye health supplement.
